Talking About Savings Today!
Healthy eating is sometimes seen as expensive. In my view, this is not true, neither in terms of ingredients nor in terms of cooking methods. But there are obviously some tricks to improving savings at all levels.
The oven allows cooking with little fat and little supervision. That’s one of the reasons why I use it so often.
On the other hand, the oven is one of the highest energy consuming appliances. So, when I use the oven, I make use of all the free space. Not only do I save on my electricity bill as I get more meals done, if not ready at least early.
Yesterday I suggested a soup recipe that starts with roast pumpkin. While doing it, I also baked other vegetables, which were welcome in two additional meals.
You should try it, there will certainly be some space in your oven next time you cook.
Things You Can Prepare, For Later Use:
This is one of my favorite desserts, which I can eat from breakfast to dinner, including snacks;
Roast Baby Carrots
Super practical, just wash the carrots, season with salt and thyme and bake for 30 minutes.
Baked Sweet Potato
This is the basis of a very comforting healthy meal during the winter. If you’ve never tried, now is the time.
Wash the whole potatoes and dry them with kitchen paper. Poke the potatoes with a fork, place them on a tray and bake for 45 – 60 minutes (depending on the size of the potatoes).
Tofu is often used as a joke as an example of boring healthy food. I tend to agree if you eat it directly from the package.
Try this: cut the tofu into cubes or toothpicks, seasoning them well with salt, pepper, turmeric and garlic powder. If you have it, add smoked paprika. Place on an oven tray and bake for 30 minutes. Use the tofu croutons on top of soups, salads or even in “sushi style” rolls.
